LXE, a division of EMS Technologies, Inc., announced recently that its Marathon field computer will feature AirWatch Mobile Device Management (MDM) software. The Marathon field computer introduces a new form-factor in mobile computing, with a larger screen size and greater computing power than a PDA, smaller size than a laptop, and multiple data-capture and connectivity options. AirWatch lets companies secure, monitor, manage and support all their mobile devices, regardless of location. Stephen Newell, LXE general manager, says the partnership combines hardware optimized for the individual mobile worker with software that empowers the entire enterprise. “The Marathon gives a field worker unprecedented opportunity for productivity, with a fully rugged, PC-based experience that has the right balance of screen size and ergonomics. Pre-loaded with the AirWatch MDM solution, the Marathon becomes even more powerful, as it gives enterprise IT management all the tools they need to connect and support that worker.” AirWatch provides corporate IT users with a single, integrated, real-time view of all mobile devices used across the organization, to successfully secure, monitor, manage and support an enterprise’s entire fleet. The software includes over-the-air device provisioning, GPS asset tracking and mapping, mobile device remote control, and mobile device lock and wipe. The Marathon field computer connects to the enterprise via Gobi WWAN radio, which supports both GSM- and CDMA-based mobile carriers, and enables the unit’s cell-assisted GPS, driving AirWatch’s real-time GPS mapping and tracking functionality. The computer can also connect to a local area Wi-Fi network via 802.11 a/b/g/n. Bluetooth connectivity provides users with the potential to connect various peripherals wirelessly.
